The Ultimate Homemade Deep-Dish Pizza Pie Recipe

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water, melted butter, and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

2. Cook the Sauce:
Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and red pepper flakes. Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly. Set aside.

3. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 10-inch deep-dish pizza pan or cast-iron skillet with olive oil.

4. Assemble the Pizza:
Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large circle, about 12 inches in diameter. Carefully press the dough into the prepared pan, ensuring it covers the bottom and sides.

Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the bottom of the crust. Add your cooked sausage, pepperoni, or other toppings. Pour the prepared tomato sauce over the toppings, spreading it evenly. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the top for an extra layer of flavor.

5. Bake:
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly. Keep an eye on it to ensure the edges don’t overbrown.

6. Cool and Serve:
Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
