Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Meat Sauce
- Cook the Meat: In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (or sausage) over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess grease.
- Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the onion is softened.
- Make the Sauce: Stir in the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
Step 2: Assemble the Lasagna in the Slow Cooker
- Layer the Ingredients: Spray the inside of your slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Add a single layer of frozen ravioli, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a generous layer of cheese on top.
Step 3: Cook the Ravioli Lasagna
- Set the Slow Cooker: Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours, or until the ravioli is tender and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 4: Serve
- Garnish and Serve: Once done, sprinkle with fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color and added flavor. Serve warm with a side of garlic bread or a fresh salad.
Tips for Success
- Don’t Thaw the Ravioli: Using frozen ravioli ensures they cook perfectly in the slow cooker without becoming mushy.
- Choose Your Protein: Swap the ground beef for ground turkey, chicken, or even a plant-based alternative for a different twist.
- Cheese Lovers Unite: Add a layer of ricotta cheese mixed with an egg for an even creamier texture.
- Watch the Time: Avoid overcooking, as the ravioli can become overly soft if left too long.
Variations
- Vegetarian Option: Skip the meat and add layers of sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini for a veggie-packed version.
- Spicy Kick: Add red pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy lasagna.
- White Sauce Swap: Use Alfredo sauce instead of marinara for a creamy, indulgent twist.
