Method
Step 1: Prepare the Pudding Mixture
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the cold milk and instant pudding mix until smooth and thickened.
- Stir in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gently fold in the whipped cream, creating a light and fluffy pudding mixture.
Step 2: Assemble the Layers
- In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, start with a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom.
- Add a layer of banana slices on top of the wafers.
- Spread a generous layer of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
- Repeat the layers (wafers, bananas, pudding) until all the ingredients are used, finishing with a pudding layer on top.
Step 3: Chill
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight. This allows the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften into a cake-like texture.
Step 4: Garnish and Serve
- Just before serving, garnish the pudding with crushed vanilla wafers, a dollop of whipped cream, or additional banana slices for a decorative touch.
- Serve chilled and enjoy every creamy, dreamy bite!
Tips for Success
- Use Ripe Bananas: The sweeter the bananas, the better the pudding. Look for bananas with yellow skins and a few brown spots.
- Customize Your Layers: Add a layer of caramel or chocolate drizzle for extra indulgence.
- Make Ahead: Banana pudding tastes even better the next day, making it an ideal make-ahead dessert.
- Single-Serve Options: Assemble the pudding in individual cups or jars for a portable and elegant presentation.
