Instructions
Step 1: Cook the Lasagna Noodles
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set them aside on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Prepare the Broccoli
Lightly steam the broccoli florets until they are tender-crisp. This will ensure they maintain their bright color and slight crunch in the lasagna.
Step 3: Make the White Sauce
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to create a roux. Slowly pour in the milk and chicken broth, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Continue stirring until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the Lasagna
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread a thin layer of white sauce on the bottom of the dish.
- Lay 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Add a layer of shredded chicken, steamed broccoli, mozzarella cheese, and a drizzle of white sauce.
- Repeat the layers (noodles, chicken, broccoli, mozzarella, and sauce) two more times, ending with noodles and a generous layer of sauce.
- Sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Step 5: Bake
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
Step 6: Let It Rest
Allow the lasagna to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This helps the layers set and makes serving easier.
Tips for the Perfect Chicken and Broccoli Lasagna
- Use Rotisserie Chicken: To save time, use pre-cooked rotisserie chicken. It’s flavorful and shreds easily.
- Broccoli Substitutes: If you’re not a fan of broccoli, swap it for spinach, zucchini, or asparagus.
- Cheese Options: For a richer flavor, add ricotta cheese to the layers or use a blend of cheeses like Gruyère or Fontina.
- Make It Ahead: Assemble the lasagna up to a day in advance, cover, and refrigerate. Bake it fresh when ready to serve.
- Add Extra Flavor: For a hint of spice, sprinkle red pepper flakes between the layers.
